Blind Guardian is a power metal (more recently epic metal) started in the mid-'80's in Germany. From the very beginning they have been inspired by the fictional world of  J.R.R Tolkien and other fantasy authors as well as traditional legends and epics. Over the years, a running theme has developed associating the band members with travelling bards.
